Paola Pérez Gutiérrez

My name is Paola Pérez Gutiérrez. I’m 21 years old. I’m from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Mexico. When I was 4 years old my family and I moved to San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. I’ve been living here since that time. I had two brothers, but when I was 15 years old my older brother passed away. My father has an English School, and I learned English there. He forced me to learn English, he said that English would be a tool for me in the future, and he was right. I learned about pathway by Friends, they told me that BYU-I has this program and they told me: “hey! you should study in Pathway! you speak English ver well, don’t you? you should try to apply the exam and then wait for your score”. I didn’t know what to do because I knew that I had to travel to Tuxtla every Thursday, pay my bus ticket, and return to my house at 10:30 or 11:00 pm. I talked about it with my parents and they were wishful to help me in paying the fee and they told me that I should try. My mom decided to join in too, but she didn’t get a good score in the exam, so I was the only one in my Pathway group that was traveling every Thursday of the week. I decided to join Pathway because I thought it was going to help me and I was going to improve my English and learn more vocabulary, gramar, etc. I didn’t imagine how many things pathway was going to teach me, but it was amazing. Every topic was interesting for me because I don’t know why, but every problem or issue I had, the topic of the week was to help me in that moment. Pathway helped me to learn about self-reliance, to set SMART goals, to set a Schedule everyday, to set the more important things I have to do each day, and to be a better disciple of Jesus Christ. Pathway helped and help me because I’m an English teacher, now I teach in my dad’s English School, and I know more vocabulary and I like to teach. I recommend Pathway program to everyone of you, I know that it’s an inspired program and of course I think Pathway will open more doors for me because I could have my own English School, however, I have more ideas of business so, I’m going to accomplish them and become a self reliant person.
